The Cheerful History of Depression Glass
Depression glass goes by many different names including (but not limited to): Oatmeal glass, Uranium glass, and Vaseline glass.
I found a really neat facts article about depression glass and learned that it was manufactured as early as the mid-1920s as a cheap alternative to crystal but was widely given as a gift with purchases in North America during the Great Depression (hence the name Oatmeal glass). The colours of the glassware were meant to be cheerful and uplifting during a dismal time of history, hence why yellow was the most popular colour. As can be expected, rare and unpopular colours then are highly collectable and valuable now.

This cheap alternative to glassware is a perfect example of artifacts being a keen indicator of conditions of the era.
